My First Year In Sales – What I’ve Learned

 Just over one year ago, I started my first-ever sales-focused job. As a new mom, I was looking for an opportunity that would give me the flexibility to spend lots of time with my daughter, but still provide more of a challenge and mental stimulation than laundry and Treehouse TV. I’d worked in sales focused organizations, I’d even managed sales teams. But I’d never been directly responsible for bringing home the bacon (except for when I was grocery shopping while PMSing… not recommended by the way).
Needless to say, it’s been an incredible year full of high and lows, wins and losses. So as I enter year two, I’m taking a minute to reflect. So in no particular order, here are the top 20 things I’ve learned during my first year as a Sales Director. continued..

    I enjoyed your blog Jen! I was in sales for 20+ years and loved it. Congratulations on your anniversary :)

    Re your 14. If you don’t like networking, you’re probably not going to like sales.

    Not necessarily so. The trick is you got to be in the right “gear” when you network. The majority of people are in 1st gear, many are in 2nd and the amazing women and good guys are in 3rd gear.
