As organizations and brands prepare to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, an important part of these celebrations (and often what your guests are left talking about afterwards) is the food.

The YellowHouse team has been busy searching for inspiration on not only beautiful, but meaningful, and real Canadian food to entertain and delight guests at these important occasions.

Who’s Got the Travel Bug? We Do!

After much success working alongside our incredible client SAMSUNG at the Sprint Platinum Partners event in Santa Barbara, we were reminded of all the fun places our work has taken us.  In particular, the multi-city road show we executed in honour of the Galaxy GS6 + and Note 5 device(s) launch.  What a great time we had as we set out across the US in East and West Coast teams.  We simultaneously took both coasts  by storm and had a ton of fun along the way!  16 cities in under 3 weeks … consider it done!

Check out our coastal map for a quick shot of our whirlwind tour.

There’s no Show Like a Road Show.

Guess what we spent the past two weeks doing?  Touring across the US to promote the launch of the Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge, no big deal.  Big shout out to our friends over at SAMSUNG who have taken the market by storm with their tech savvy innovation and “SIX”y design.

While we were on the road, we had the opportunity to play with the device (we love it!), to execute in some cutting edge venues and to have a TON of fun along the way.  Check out our interactive map to follow our route and see our fun tips!

Our Top Five West Coast Health & Wellness Trends

San Fran yoga

If you were asked to name the top 10 cities known for health and fitness, we’d bet our bottom dollar that San Francisco would surely top your list.  Though it’s true they’re responsible for the pseudo-celebrity status of their beloved Rice-a-Roni dishes, locals certainly embrace a health-conscious lifestyle.  After recently spending some time in Fog City, I’m happy to report back on the top 5 health & wellness trends making a splash in San Francisco.

  1. Tahoe, the Great.

Given the season, it would be impossible not to have skiing and/or snowboarding at the top of this list.  Despite the drought and lack of snowfall this year, many San Franciscans are making the 4 hour trek to Lake Tahoe to hit the slopes.  The drive may be lengthy but the picturesque landscape and promise of great runs at mountains like Heavenly & Kirkwood make all the milage worth it.

  1. Cycling!

With such close proximity to incredible biking trails (including the Marin Headlands) cycling has long been a favorite pastime of local residents.  This year, BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) reports an estimated 22% increase in commuter cyclists in the City.  It seems that more and more riders have decided to brave the intensely hilly terrain instead of driving their gas guzzling autos to work.  High fives all around!

  1. Making nice with salad …

It seems that everywhere you look salad bars are popping up.  While there have always been a number of healthy options like The Grove and Pacific Catch for getting your healthy lunch bowl on, the trend towards build-your-own-salad bars and healthy lunch buffet has exploded across the City.  You can put anything you like in your bowl from quinoa to tempe.  For someone who loves variety and indulging as much as I do, this option of all-you-can-eat superfoods fits the bill perfectly.  Go kale, go!

  1. Organics … beyond produce aisle.

Look out cucumbers, there’s a new organic in town.  In San Francisco, when the sun is out, so are the people! That’s why it’s very important to take great care of your skin.   Walk by any Sephora in The Bay area and you’ll see that the most sought after products are those that are all-natural, organic and paraben free. You’ll get bonus points for an SPF content of 15 or higher in your daily moisturizer.  Everyone is going organic-bananas for these products.

  1. Class is in session.

San Francisco  is full of continuing education and class options for all sorts of subjects, including the old faithfuls like Yoga, Pilates and boot camps but now there is a whole new crop of options to help you get your sweat on.  Specialized classes like Bar Method, SoulCycle and PopPhysique are ruling the roost.  With their special formulas for target training, perfect form and maximum burn, everyone is excited to get their sweat on.

Confessions of a Travel Bug. By our resident travel expert, Jenn Cole.

So, you say you wanna travel for work, do ya? Well, I’ve logged enough miles this year to make your dial spin! I’ve produced many successful events, emailed in almost every airport in the Country and even managed to learn a few tricks along the way. So after a whirlwind year of planes, trains and automobiles, here are my my top 3 tips on how to make the most out of travelling for work. Because in our agency, we believe there’s always room for a little fun!

  1. Get cozy with WiFi

First of all, make Wifi your BEST friend! Whenever, wherever you can, you should always get your Wifi on. It’s easy to forget as we all have data on our smartphones and various mobile devices but to save money and stay connected, Wifi really is key. It’s available almost everywhere you go and all you have to do is ask to get the login deets. Not only does it tend to move more quickly than your roaming data, it also saves dollar bills, and who doesn’t love a good deal? We sure do and we bet your clients will too.

  1. Drop the extra baggage

Second, where possible, pack light. Toting your carry on in lieu of checking your baggage is a great way to save time and money both coming and going. You’ll be able to breeze through electronic check-in AND, you won’t be able to help yourself from beaming your pearly whites as you sail past the gaggle of passengers waiting at the baggage carousel. Smile on my friend, smile on!

  1. Be a little indulgent.

Finally, no matter how grueling your schedule, always, always make room for a little “me” time. It’s key to find at least 30 minutes in your day that are free of meetings, calls & site-visits. It can be tough, but this time should also be without your phone. Yup, I did it, I went there. It’s easy to miss out on a beautiful city, sunset or hidden gem while your head is pointed down. Even if it’s just to grab a quick bite in a local hot spot or to soak in the hotel’s hot tub, –you’ll feel energized and excited about the city you’re in if you can make the time to do something local while you’re there.

Well, there you have it. My top 3 tricks for making the most of your life as a travel bug. Still want more? Stay tuned for more of our insider tidbits as we travel the globe in search of the latest and greatest each city has to offer. Oh, and of course executing on a few amazing events while we’re at it.
